At Inspiration for Writers, Inc., our rates are all-inclusive. Once you get a quote, that’s the total you will pay for the service you have chosen. There are no hidden fees or additional costs tacked on after you hire us. For specific rate amounts, please see the page for the service that interests you.
We base our rates on the number of original words in your work. To determine your word count, open your document in a word processing program like Microsoft Word. Select the “Tools” icon. Under the Tools category, you should see “Word Count.” Click on this and make a note of the number. Documents in Vista automatically display the word count in the lower left corner of the manuscript. Multiply this count by the rate per word for the particular service, and round off to the nearest whole dollar.
We offer the following services:
Proofreading (1.2 cents per word; $45 minimum per manuscript) – this is a line-by-line read through to find errors in spelling, punctuation, word choice, and grammar—and any other “typos” that may be present.
Manuscript Analysis (1 cent per word; $75 minimum per manuscript) – this is a detailed evaluation of the manuscript, including an evaluation of each element (dialogue, plot, setting, point of view, manuscript format, pacing, etc.) and a discussion of what is needed to make the manuscript marketable. This service includes follow-up consultations to guide you through the submissions and publishing processes.
Detailed edit and critique (3 cents per original word; $60 minimum per manuscript) – this includes a detailed edit (correction of spelling, punctuation, word choice, and grammar); content edit (correction and/or marking of passive voice, redundancies, weak dialogue, incorrect dialogue structure, incorrect paragraph construction, and much more); critique comments and explanations as required; and follow-up conversations.
Ghost-editing (7 cents per original word) – this is a detailed edit with the correction of poor dialogue, telling-not-showing, and so forth, as well as adding in additional dialogue, action, etc. This is a good option for someone who has the time to write out the story, but lacks the experience to make that story come to life. This service includes follow-up conversations.
Ghostwriting (10 – 90 cents per finished word) – this service varies greatly depending upon your exact needs. If we are fleshing out dialogue or smoothing out your words, the rate will be at the lower end of the range. If we are actually writing a book from scratch, the rates will run from 30-90 cents per word. Additional fees may apply to cover travel expenses, extraordinary research, or extenuating circumstances. Short pieces–such as articles, children’s books, ebooks, and such–may have overhead expenses added. Before we begin a ghostwriting project, we will provide you with a proposal that lists all fees and gives a firm quote.
