Jessica Nelson is proud to serve as intern for Inspiration for Writers, Inc. Originally from Morgantown, West Virginia, she studies Creative Writing at West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she is the American Scholar—a competitive honor awarded only once per year that includes a four-year scholarship for tuition, room, and board. In July of 2015, she traveled to London, England as a Fulbright Summer Institute Participant to study British children’s literature at King’s College London. An avid reader of many genres, she devours any book she can get her hands on. She has won many awards in both fiction and poetry at the West Virginia Writers Annual Writing Competition and WVW Writer’s Wall Awards, and served as an intern for multiple WV Writers conferences. She is a Gold Key and multi-Silver Key recipient in the national Scholastic Art and Writing Competition, which gives recognition at a regional and potentially national level to high school students for excellence in art and writing. Her prose poem “I Am Not a Poet” is published in Shepard University’s Anthology of Appalachian Writers, Vol. 7: Homer Hickam Edition. Jessica also frequently writes the “Making a Difference” section of Cheat Lake Life Above the Ordinary magazine. Her dream is to edit books by day and write by night, and is thankful for Inspiration for Writers, Inc., which has brought her one step closer to that dream.
